Plump and juicy, with apricot, maraschino cherry and black licorice notes that show accents of star anise, black tea and black pepper, adding an aromatic overtone to the harmonious, velvety flavors at the core. Shiraz and Viognier. Drink now.

This is a ripe, somewhat confected, Shiraz-Viognier blend from the winery that put the latter variety on the Aussie map. Notes of berry and plum fruit swirl with cola, peppery spice and dried herbs. Acidity and tannins are pronounced if a little angry, although the freshness is welcome amid the muscles and richness of the fruit. A weeknight barbecue wine.

The 2019 Y Series Shiraz Viognier is a 96-4 blend of the two varieties, with a deep purple color and aromas of blueberries, peaches and subtle spice shadings. Despite weighing in at 14.5% alcohol on the label, it's only medium-bodied in feel, with a supple texture and barely present tannins on the fleeting finish. Enjoy it for its forward fruit over the next year or two.
