As a preamble the ruby red hue of this Rosé de Saignée is a pleasure for the eyes. The nose of this Champagne is a spring bouquet: rose, wild strawberry, raspberry and later blackberry combine perfectly to offer aromas, which would not be expected in a conventional rosé Champagne. The mouth follows on from the nose, and, thanks to the structure of the Pinot Noir, the vinosity of the finish is compellin. Because of this freshness, this Rosé de Saignée Champagne is best enjoyed young to take full advantage of aromas of small, fresh and crisp red berries.

The NV Brut Premier Cru Rose de Saignee is 100% Pinot Noir, all from the 2009 harvest. Kirsch, sweet red cherries, crushed flowers, mint and spices all waft from the glass. This is a pretty delicate, ethereal style of Rose considering the year and the saignee style, but the wine's balance is quite attractive. I imagine the Rose de Saignee will offer its finest drinking sooner rather than later. Disgorgement date: June 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015.

This full, rich style of rosé gets its color from grape skins, which provides a touch of tannin as well as strawberry flavor and attractive acidity. It's definitely for food.
