"From old Primitivo vineyards. The wine went through a complete malolactic fermentation in French and Hungarian oak barrels, where it aged for ten months. A further eight month period of bottle aging. Intense ruby red color. Rich and ripe fruit aromas with notes of plums, cherries, vanilla, and chocolate. Supple, red fruit and spice define a complex structure, properly tannic but balanced and flavorful."

Dense dark-berry aromas are lifted by plenty of violet, graphite and potpourri spice on the nose. There's a creaminess to the dark fruit on the palate, with warm baking spice tones and firm tannins giving grip and bright acidity lifting it up.

You definitely know you are in the deep south of Italy when you poke your nose into the 2017 Primitivo Torcicoda. From a very hot and dry vintage, this wine falls just short of being overtly jammy, and its ripe black fruit appears oversized in this edition. The bouquet shows raisin, prunes and dried blackberries. It ends on a sweet spot with more cherry confit and blackberry marmalade to follow. Try it with some sausage-stuffed peppers or a pasta with eggplant. I suggest drinking this wine within the next few years.

An easy-drinking red, with lightly chewy tannins and notes of baked cherry, ground cardamom and a hint of warm brown bread. Drink now. 4,000 cases imported.
