Nose: Antique dried cedar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and candied ginger.

Palate: Vanilla extract and butterscotch give way to crushed black peppercorns.

Finish: Black pepper lingers and softens, ending with a baked cinnamon note.

Reviews:

The Whiskey Wash: The nose is inviting and so sweet for a 100% rye. I find classic spice notes enveloped in dark sugars, licorice, candied ginger and vanilla. There is some alcohol but it is cloaked in Spring honey. The flavors really come alive here with white pepper and rye spice. The candied sugars are not as present but have been replaced by smoother caramels, cola, and charred oak. The flavors are mature but still bright with just enough edge. Oily mouthfeel with a medium to long hold. It feels smooth across the palate without a sharp aftertaste. It lingers with notes of oak and warm honey. There are moments of baking spices like clove and licorice but overall the notes are well heeled to the profile.

I really ‘banked’ on this being more of a gimmick. Who can blame me. WhistlePig already has a 10 year rye for national release and I assumed this would be more-or-less that in a cool bottle. It isn’t, this is a great pour of 100% rye whiskey in a unique bar topper. SCORE: 90
