A spiced and savory wine with juicy red-fruited character, offering red berries, rose hips and hints of grapefruit peel on the nose. Medium-bodied with bright acidity yet smooth and polished in texture, it finishes with spicy tension.
The 2023 Chianti Classico is a very pretty entry-level Annata from Castello di Querceto. Crushed flowers, orange peel, spice, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco give the 2023 lovely aromatic presence to match its midweight personality. This gracious Chianti Classico is very nicely balanced.
Castello di Querceto is in a cool, tight valley on the eastern flank of the Monti del Chianti range. The annata hails from vineyards between 350-500 metres and is refined in stainless steel and cement rather than oak. A restrained nose opens attractively to reveal fresh red plum, lavender and lemon balm. The palate is relatively angular in shape with light but sturdy tannins propping it up. Slightly astringent grape tannins lend texture. Crisp, genuine and made for food. -Michaela Morris
