Description

Winemaker's Notes:

Château Tour du Haut-Moulin is situated in the village of Cussac-Fort-Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. The estate’s parcels surround the winery itself, lying across typical Médoc terraces: higher plots consist of deep, coarse Garonne gravels with strong drainage and heat retention; mid-slope areas contain mixed gravel-sand soils; and lower parcels closer to the estuary rest on clay-limestone substrates that retain moisture.

The proximity to the estuary contributes to slow and steady ripening, moderated humidity, and reduced climatic variability and risks (such as frost and drought), supporting consistent phenolic development and balanced blends.

The geology of the Médoc region results from ancient fluvial and marine processes: over millions of years, sediment transported by rivers - particularly the former course of the Garonne - and by periodic flooding accumulated as layers of gravel, sand, clay, stones, and pebbles, forming the characteristic alluvial terraces of the Médoc peninsula.

The outcome is a mosaic terroir, with parcels exhibiting small but meaningful soil differences that encourage site-specific viticulture. This mosaic helps Tour du Haut-Moulin achieve complexity and consistency across vintages.

The interaction between geology, hydrology and climate creates conditions in which vines are both challenged (encouraging deep rooting) and supported (through a stable climate and adequate water), resulting in grapes capable of producing wines with depth, structure, finesse and aging potential.
