Winemaker's Notes
The selection of our oldest plots located on the slopes that have seen the Rioja Alavesa evolve, produce this intense long-lived wine that, after five years in bottle, reaches its maximum splendor, lasting over time and surprising in nuances and elegance
Las Arenas
This is a plot of 0.41 hectares, planted in 1941, with very poor, deep soil and a high proportion of limestone. This is combined with good exposure to both the sun and the north winds, which favors a slow and long ripening.
From this vineyard, combined with a series of other vineyards that reach 90 years of age, located on the slopes of Sierra Cantabria, we make our longest-lived wine with which we seek to show the extraordinary aging capacity that Rioja wines have historically demonstrated.
Tasting Note
Deep cherry color and deep layer. Aromas of red pome fruits, cherry and plum, with a subtle contribution of wood in the background. Ample and forceful in the mouth with good length throughout the palate, with the fruit predominating over the spicy notes from the oak, which complement and amplify it on the finish. Harmonious and with a good aftertaste.
Food Pairing
Stews, game, dishes prepared with mushrooms and smoked cheeses.

A spicy nose with some cumin, graphite, cedar and walnut on top of the blackberries, following through to a medium to full body, swathed in minerals, blue fruit and a mouthful of chalky tannins. Very well made. Drink or hold.
